Product definition

What Devprentice Is

Devprentice is a beta platform for structured open-source mentorship programs. Developers and maintainers work around real GitHub repositories with scoped milestones, pull requests, review, feedback response, and a public record of collaboration.

Problem

The Problem We Address

Open-source contribution can be hard to evaluate from code alone. GitHub shows commits, issues, pull requests, and reviews, but it does not always make the full collaboration pattern easy to follow: how someone responded to feedback, how consistently they showed up, or how a maintainer guided the work.

Devprentice is designed to add program structure around that work so developers can build presentable experience and maintainers can make mentorship and review quality visible.

Builder

Who Built This

Devprentice was founded in 2026 by Joseph Knickerbocker, a software engineer building a practical way for open-source mentorship, contribution quality, review response, and collaboration to become more structured and visible.

Verification model

What Devprentice Is Designed to Verify

Devprentice is designed to capture evidence from GitHub pull requests, review threads, milestone completion, feedback response, communication, consistency, maintainer guidance, and completion outcomes when beta programs run.

Any public artifact shown before approved real programs exist should be treated as a sample, demo, or example record.

Beta truth

Current Status

Devprentice is beta-stage and has not onboarded users yet. Developers can apply for beta participation, and maintainers can submit project context to apply to run an early beta program. Devprentice is free during beta for developers and maintainers. Applications and project submissions are reviewed before program participation.
