About Devprentice
Our Mission
Devprentice matches vetted software developers with open source project maintainers through structured apprenticeship programs. The goal is quality contributions, not volume. Every developer who reaches your project has been screened for technical skill, motivation, and genuine interest in your work.
The Problem We Solve
Open source maintainers are overwhelmed by low-quality contributions. Mass AI-generated pull requests, drive-by contributors who never read the docs, and people padding their GitHub profiles have turned the contribution inbox into a source of burnout rather than community growth. Devprentice exists to fix that by ensuring every contributor in your queue is someone worth your time.
Who Built This
Devprentice was founded by Joseph Knickerbocker, a software engineer who wanted to give back to the open source community. After recognizing that the contribution quality crisis was a solvable problem, he built Devprentice to bridge the gap between motivated developers and maintainers who need reliable help.
Current Status
Devprentice is currently in private beta. The platform is live and accepting projects from open source maintainers. The vetting process combines AI-assisted research with direct human communications to evaluate applicants. As the platform matures, the vetting process will evolve to serve a growing number of projects and contributors.
